Zinc Chromates
Zinc metal, like Cadmium, will sacrifice itself and corrode preferentially in order to protect the steel substrate. To enhance the corrosion resistance of a zinc plated deposit, parts are immersed or sprayed with a Chromate solution. The Chromate chemically reacts with the zinc and forms a thin film barrier to retard oxidation. Chromates are available in a number of colors and range from low to ultra high corrosion resistant. To further protect the Chromate film, Top Coats and Sealers can be added to the final finish.
