Aluminum Chromates

Aluminum is a unique metal that will dissolve in both acidic and alkaline solutions, so special care must be taken to prepare the metal surface for Chromating.  Some aluminum alloys can simply be cleaned in a non-etch cleaner, while others also require etching, de-oxidizing and/or de-smutting.  Aluminum Chromates should provide improved corrosion resistance and an excellent base for paint.

Metalline Chemical Corporation manufactures the following two high protection chromate conversion coatings for aluminum:

  • PAC 850 is a powdered hexavalent “yellow” chromate for aluminum. By varying the immersion time and the PAC 850 concentration, the deposit color can range from lightly iridescent to deep bronze. PAC 850 can be used as an attractive final finish or as a corrosion resistant base for lacquer, paint or powder coat. PAC 850 provides superior corrosion resistance in all applications.
  • A-141-PC is a powdered hexavalent “clear” chromate for aluminum. A-141-PC can be used as an attractive final finish or as a corrosion resistant base for lacquer, paint or powder coat. A-141-PC provides superior corrosion resistance in all applications.
